Originally built around  1482, it was extensively refurbished and remodeled in the 1830's by the 6th Baronet after he married a rich heiress.    Since all of the Baronets have been staunch Catholics, the house was equipped with a secret "priest hole" in the 16th century and today's visitors are invited to climb down into the narrow pit - I passed!
