Han Dynasty Warriors (BCE 206 - 220 CE)

Armor made of iron scales was popular during the Western Han Dynasty. Consequently, this gradually came into common use in the Western Han armed forces as primary equipment, during the period 206 BCE to 220 CE.

Qin Dynasty warrior (BCE 221 - BCE 206)

The Qin General, based on the Emperor Qin's Terracotta Warriors, was made of 160 pieces of leather shaped into a four-square shape. The leather pieces comprising the armor were connected with rawhide or cattle tendon, in a "V" design.

Photo by Auguste Francois, ca 1870, depicting Su Yuanchun, (1844-1908 AD) a Manchu general in Guangxi.  A tough illiterate Manchu, Su Yuanchun was one of the last great warrior Manchus. He distinguished himself in the field and made it from a simple soldier to a distinguished general in a time when the Qing fought battles against modern firearms with sabers, spears, bows, arrows and matchlock muskets. He commanded a force against the French at the battle of Zhennan Passwhich and won.
