The Old State House was the seat of all English control in colonial Boston. On July citizens gathered to hear the Decl. of Independence read from the balcony. In front of this bldg was the Boston Massacre.
Mary Barrett Dyer was an English Puritan turned Quaker who was hung in Boston for repeatedly defying a Puritan law banning Quakers from the colony. She is one of the four executed Quakers known as the Boston martyrs.
