Portrait of Louis de Jean by Philippe Mercier b1689 Berlin d 1760 London) Mercier was a French Huguenot painter & etcher, who lived principally & was active in England. He was born in Berlin the son of a French Huguenot tapestry-worker. He studied painting at the Akademie der Wissenschaften of Berlin & later under Antoine Pesne, He traveled in Italy before arriving in London probably in 1716. He married in London in 1719 & lived in Leicester Fields
