Philippina "Pina" Bausch (1940 – 2009) was a German modern dancer, choreographer, and ballet director. Due to her unique style—a blend of movement, sound, and prominent stage sets—and her elaborate collaboration with performers during the development of a piece (a style now known as Tanztheater), she was a leading influence in modern dance from the 1970s to present.
