Raphael, School of Athens - this is in the Papal Apts, Vatican, we viewed this painting in private tour of Vatican, Rome, Italy. Raphael could not stand Micheangelo, who he considered a sculptor who painted, but not a painter - so he put in this painting, the man in the front, that everyone has their noses turned up at, b/c he did not bathe regularly, so much in this painting and how Christianity was viewed by Greek philosophers.

The School of Athens was painted between 1509 and 1511 as a part of Raphael's commission to decorate, the Stanza della Segnatura, the library of the Pope, in the Apostolic Palace in the Vatican.
