Beautiful illumination work from my student Mariam Yasin, produced on my Summer Islamic art courses.

This frontpiece is from an illuminated copy of the Qur’an (723 AH / 1323 CE - Walters Ms. W.559) by Mubārakshāh ibn Quṭb, honored with the epithet zarrīn qalam (golden pen). Mubārakshāh ibn Quṭb was one of the six pupils of the illustrious calligrapher Yāqūt al-Mustaʿṣimī (d. 698 AH / 1298 CE).

A work by William Morris. This piece draws inspiration from nature whilst balancing it with symmetry. Morris was a leading contributor of the Art and Crafts Movement which led on to directly influence Art Nouveau designs.
