Alarmed by the rapid aging of former leprosy patients, national sanitariums around Japan are scurrying to preserve the history of Hansen's disease, which was once plagued by social stigma and ostracism.  The residents at Keifuen, one of the 13 national Hansen’s disease sanitariums in Japan, say they want a “museum that can speak for the voices of former patients,” as they fear none of the aging residents will be able to recount their stories in the near future.
