Ration Book for Petrol - Rationing began  after the start of the WW2 in October 1939. The official allowance for was 8 gallons a month up to 10 hp; 12 gallons a month for cars 10 - 16 hp. Doctors, priests & vets received an extra allowance. By the middle of 1941 things were getting bad.By March 1942 most private cars &trams were off the road. The trains began to use turf as an alternative energy supply. Most people used bicycles or horse traps instead
