Hawker Hurricane HC-452 at The Finnish Aviation
Operating from RAF Middle Wallop at 14.00hrs on 30 September 1940, P/O Robert A "Bob" Kings bailed out near Shaftesbury after a mid-air collision with P/O Vernon C Simmonds, both of No 238 Squadron RAF, during a routine patrol. The 25-year-old pilot was injured in a heavy landing as a result of a damaged parachute, which had ripped on the tail of Hurricane Mk I VK-D. He was admitted to hospital and rejoined on 15 November.

Hurricane Mk I YB-F lies overturned in France in 1940. No 17 Squadron RAF flew from Le Mans from 8 June 1940 under the command of S/L Cedric W Williams. Prior to retreating from Dinard 9 days later to Jersey and Guernsey where they operated for 2 days over the Cherbourg peninsular before moving on to RAF Debden on 19 June, the pilots found some abandoned motorcycles and raced them around the Circuit de la Sarthe.
