A 4F at Tunstall,1960

This picture of Peter's is a favourite of mine. It shows the Potteries with pit mounds, chimneys and terraced houses, a scene straight from the Arnold Bennett Clayhanger trilogy. The picture also shows 44424 doing a little shunting under the watch of the signal box. In the station yard are the backs of two British Railways parcels delivery vehicles, the nearest DAR 719 is a Scammell mechanical horse, the other is a box van GAR 667, probably a Thorneycroft, both are finished in maroon and…

In 1783, local businessmen formed a corporate charter for Hanley with Shelton it became a market town under an Act of 1813, and by 1830 it was considered one of the largest towns in the area. The Leopard Inn, Burslem

If you like this shot, press 'F' and show your appreciation! I recently had the fantastic opportunity to photograph a fantastic piece of history right in the middle of Stoke on Trent. Sometimes known as the 'Savoy of the Midlands' the Leopard Inn in Burslem certainly holds a lot of hidden secrets. The Leopard Inn is one of Stoke-on-Trent's hidden gems. A listed building in Burslem, it is steeped in history and the discovery of tunnels and 58 bedrooms that have been left exactly as they were…
