On January 20, 1945, Franklin D. Roosevelt was sworn in for an unprecedented (and never to be repeated) fourth term as U.S. President. Since 1951, however, when the 22nd Amendment was ratified, no person can be elected president more than twice. Roosevelt died 82 days into this term, and Truman succeeded to the presidency.
