In her creative online courses “Math for Highly Gifted Children,” beloved math instructor extraordinaire Dr. Rachel “Ms. Math” McAnallen will introduce children ages 6-11 to a whole new approach to learning math. Kids will have a blast as they learn using Dr. McAnallen’s logical and time-tested strategies for understanding math in a way that kids rarely get to experience. These courses will take place during the fall semester in the Royal Fireworks Online Learning Community!
The Logic-Math books for children are filled with fun exercises that involve organizing information, sequencing, pattern decoding, understanding relationships, inferring, solving analogies, deducing, fractions, graphs, volume, and much more. The exercises develop critical-thinking skills in children using math concepts in a format that is highly appealing. There are books available for kids in grades K-4.
Educational Play: Math is a compendium of dozens of activities and games to play with young children to enhance their awareness of and ability in math. It offers a fun way for children to discover that math is all around them and that basic computation and estimation skills are essential to navigating life in the real world. The activities provide children with basic knowledge in subjects such as kitchen measurements, financial literacy, budgeting, and even holding a garage sale.
Robert Black has chronicled Lovelace's life and contributions in this biographical novel, which is part of the Mathematical Lives series designed to present to children an alternate approach to mathematics. Not all children thrive with the traditional operational approach to teaching math. The biographical/historical approach supplies context that many children find helpful. There is even a chance to solve problems that Ada faced in a “Doing the Math” section at the back of the book.
