The remains of The Village on Hirta, the largest island in the St Kilda archipelago which contains the westernmost islands of the Outer Hebrides, of Scotland and the United Kingdom.
Seabirds provided the majority of the diet for the islanders of St Kilda and nearly all other activities were suspended during the fowling season (August). Fulmar and gannets were eaten fresh in season or cured. Puffins were also occasionally eaten.

Just been watching a programme on BB2 about St Kilda which brought back great memories of my trip out there last year. The islanders used to land here and climb up the stack on home made ropes to gather eggs and catch gannets.

St Kilda, Scotland It's last inhabitants may have left back in the Thirties, but the spectacular archipelago of St Kilda, the remotest part of the British Isles, is worth a visit if you can get there. It's not easy to get to the World Heritage Site, and you can only camp there, so contact National Trust for Scotland for details.
