Architect: Sir Denys Lasdun (1914-2001), building opened 1976. In his early career, Sir Denys was a partner in Tecton, the pioneering modernist practice started by Berthold Lubetkin. The NT was one of his (Lasdun, Softley and Partners) later works: a magnificent example of high Modernism/Brutalism, which has been Grade II* listed by English Heritage.
