Druids head pub, brighton lanes

A nice little spot in an otherwise touristy town. Great food, crusty locals, few college party-ers. And they take AMEX!

Nestled in the heart of deepest, darkest Kemp Town is the dimly lit and appropriately named Black Dove.

It looks like a completely classic old school pub: low-ceilinged, cosy, with wooden tables and a Bohemian vibe. The walls that are plastered in antique cigarette and sweet tins, each with a secret handwritten note folded inside. These have been donated by patrons over the decades this pub has been going, and you’re welcome to grab a pen and add your own note to one of the tins. Or amuse yourself while you drink by reading other people’s offerings from love letters to secret maps.

This place has no windows, hell, it might as well not have a door, which is no problem because half the people here look like they never want to leave. The bar extends the length of the room which takes your eyes around all the curves and shapes of the walls,
