I K Brunel's Great Eastern was finally launched from Millwall on the River Thames, London on 21 January 1858 after several earlier unsucessful attempts. At the time, the Great Eastern was the largest ship ever built and the first to have a double hull for safety. This is one of a series of photographs showing the Great Eastern under construction held by ICE Archive.
