Hachijō-daiko is a unique style of Japanese drumming originating on Japan's Hachijo Island. Hachijō-daiko is an improvisational style of drumming in which drum is positioned vertically to allow 2 players to hit either side at same time. One player provides underlying beat, or shita-byōshi, while tother builds on this rhythmical foundation with unique & typically improvised musical composition (ue-byōshi).
