Antony Gormley (born 1950) is an English installation artist and professor at the European Graduate School EGS. Best known for his Gateshead public sculpture Angel of the North, Gormley studied art history, anthropology, and archaeology before he spent three years traveling in Sri Lanka and India on a personal search for knowledge of Buddhism and Asian culture. Inspired by the human form from an abstract perspective and a Turner Prize winner, his work has achieved international exposure.
