Belfast sinks are typical additions to a farmhouse kitchen. They have been in use since at least the 1700s, and although most rectangular ceramic sinks are commonly referred to as Belfast sinks there are actually a variety of different types. In Belfast, access to plentiful water meant that sinks with overflows were common, as a tap was often left running in the Butler's pantry.
