EARL ROBERT DUDLEY: statesman, confidante and possible lover of Queen Elizabeth I. When his wife Amy fell down a flight of stairs and broke her neck in 1560 suspicion fell on Dudley of having murdered her to free himself for marriage to Elizabeth. It was never proved and he was miles away at the time, but ‘no smoke without fire’ Satan probably reasoned.

HOLY ROMAN EMPEROR RUDOLF II OF HABSBURG: eccentric, religiously tolerant, a lover of the arts and sciences, he was the patron of astronomers Tycho Brahe and Johannes Kepler. Another guest who doesn’t seem qualified to be in Hell and may have blagged his way into the party.

MADAME DE BRINVILLIERS: a seventeenth century French poisoner who conspired with her lover to kill her father and several siblings (probably using aqua tofana) in order to inherit the family estate. She was sentenced to death by “water cure” (the forced drinking of 9 litres of water), was then decapitated and her body burnt.

MESSALINA: Empress of Rome. Wanton, decadent and reputedly sexually insatiable. While married to the Emperor Claudius she was rumoured to work as a prostitute by night under the name of the She Wolf. She once engaged in a 24-hour sex competition with a local whore, which she won with a score of 25 men. Her husband not unreasonably had her executed for promiscuity in 48 AD.

CALIGULA: mad and despotic Roman emperor and self-decreed god. Known for his sexual licence and profligate spending of state funds. He murdered his father-in-law, brother-in-law and cousin and had incestuous relations with three of his sisters. Famously he tried to appoint his horse a consul. He was assassinated by his own bodyguards in AD 41

Caligula Wasn’t Especially Brilliant.hahaha this actually makes my night :DD
