BOOKS // BOOKS I LOVE
Loved this! It was a unique and interesting story for a change and the dialogue between the characters was perfect. It's not often I can't put a book down but this was one of those times where I just had to keep reading to get to a happy ending. The secondary characters were also strong, I'm hopeful that Viscount Greywick gets his own novel!
Magic systems can be really hit and miss. Too complex and you have no idea what’s going on, too simple and it adds nothing to the story. This one strikes the right balance. The author does a great job of blending fantasy & references to West-African culture seamlessly, it makes for a unique and intriguing read. The cliffhanger, wow that was CRUEL! Luckily I read this once the second novel had been published otherwise I don’t think I could have coped with the wait!
I wasn’t expecting to love this one as much as I did. As YA goes this feels on the younger side than I would usually like but the story is just so unique and fun I love it anyway. Sea monsters, pirates and comedic dialogue while also dealing with issues such as racism, misogyny. Yes it’s a weird mix I grant you, but it works! I love anything that has a strong leading lady who doesn’t appear to be interested in men, or women. At its heart, this novel is about friendship and sticking together.
