Sally Garrett is a visual artist working within a craft and material context. She is interested in the relationship between dancer and fine artist. Sally chooses to use porcelain paper clay to recreate the form of the ballet shoes, owing to its sculptural quality. Applying hand to material, each piece is softly moulded over a worn ballet shoe and then assembled, like the sewing of a garment. Textural, intuitive marks are coloured, bisqued and glazed. #porcelain #balletshoes
The delicate quilted notebook cover comes complete with writing pad. Sue Mapley's work takes a variety of forms and styles. Some pieces make use of traditional quilt blocks which she then sets out in her own overall design. Other, more recent, additions to her range of work are small, freely pieced, framed textiles using colours inspired by nature and the landscape. She enjoys using many different fabrics in each piece to add interest and a sense of depth.
