Llywelyn the Great, full name Llywelyn ap Iorwerth, (c. 1172 – 11 April was a Prince of Gwynedd in north Wales and eventually de facto ruler over most of Wales. By a combination of war and diplomacy he dominated Wales for 40 years.
The first king of the Silures mentioned in modern history was Caradog ap Bran ap Llyr Llediath. He was the Caractacus found in the annals of Tacitus who resisted the Roman invasion of his lands in 51 AD, was defeated and taken to Rome as a prisoner.
