であった宝蔵院覚禅坊胤栄が、水面に映る月影からヒントを得て、直槍に十文字の枝をつけたことからはじまるという。話としてはおもしろいけれども、真実はどうであろうか。記録によると、胤栄は慶長12年(1607)に87歳で死んだというから、盛んに活躍したのは、合戦で盛んに槍が使用された永禄・元亀・天正の間であったものと思われる。しかし十文字槍には、胤��栄の盛時よりもかなり古いものが相当にあるところからみて、この話が誤りであることが知れようし、また、三股の鉾はずっと古くからあったのでから、名が鉾であるによせ、槍であるによせ、この形を宝蔵院胤栄が創始ししたというのは明らかに誤りのようである。 十文字槍の形状は数多く多岐にわたり、それぞれに異なる名称があり、左右の枝が両方ともに上を向いた上り鎌十文字、両方ともに下を向いた下り鎌十文字、両枝ともに真横に向いてでている厳密なる十文字槍、一方が上を向きもう一方が下向く上下鎌十文字などが十文字槍のいくつかある基本形ともいうべきでもので、この他にも、枝の形状によって色々と名称が名づけられている。 Spears
