7 First week of school activities for high schoolers

Just made this Question ball. While in a circle, Have students say the name of the person he/she is throwing to (to practice learning names). The person who catches it says their name again and answers whatever question their right thumb lands on.

Gem Jar. This is a classroom management idea used to reward whole class behavior. Have a cut out of a jar taped to whiteboard. There are also a bunch of magnetic gems. When the class WOW's teacher-add a gem to the class jar. When other classes compliment behavior in the hallway, the cafeteria, or Related Arts-Add a gem. When the class fills the whole jar, Let them vote on their class reward. Extra Recess, Movie on Friday, Popcorn, etc

Classroom library area: these are for the students to be able to read with during read to someone. It goes with the book "Rocket Learns to Read".

Like the idea of tying a laminated label around a few soft toys saying 'Please read to me' or 'I like listening to stories'. The toys could be in a basket or sat on cushions in the book area.

iPad storage using file storage from staples

Having an iPad station for the classroom using a file organizer sets the room up for success! Students know where to access the i-Pad's and know where they need to be returned. Every single one has a home and rules for reminders.

Outdoor Chalkboard Garden - how cool would this be??

Bright, attractive and weather resistant these colourful chalkboard Daisies will transform dull playground fencing into an exciting and fun area for young children to explore outdoor mark making.

By Sue Elliott. For children, families and educators to collaboratively construct sustainable early child communities is the goal and this can be facilitated by implementing the EYLF through a lens of sustainability.
