Update Your Travel Supplies
It's easy to get despondent over the fact that we can't explore the world as much as we'd like to at the moment. However this is the perfect opportunity to update your travel supplies. Start by checking if your suitcase/backpack is still safe and secure - especially for a post-coronavirus world - then check all your other items. We know our mini first aid kit needs updating as well as our holiday ebooks and will be making full use of the many offers on at the moment!
Exploring England - Safely!
While many countries are now allowing more movement in their countries it is still going to be some time before we can head overseas on our holidays. Although there are still many restrictions in place in England you are now able to explore your local vicinity. There are some amazing places of natural beauty and we'd love to hear about your local finds!
Customs Around The World
Countries around the world have their own customs and traditions and some even have their own traditional dances! We've been learning different dances from different countries, including how to do the Highland Fling via this great video we found from Two Scots Abroad. We'd love to know what your favourite dance is, and why.
Spice Up Family Quiz Nights!
Many of us are staying in touch with our friends & family via video calls with quiz nights becoming the new 'going out'. Why not make your next night different by getting everyone to chose a different drink from around the world? Whether it's a soft drink or alcoholic there are many to choose from such as Cambodian elephant dung coffee or a traditional Siam Sunray from Thailand. Carpe Travel have put together a great guide to the best - and weirdest - international drinks, have fun!
Explore The World...
If the sight of your own four walls is driving you to despair why not take a virtual tour of the world via Google Street View? We're sure we're not the only ones who have used the app to look at our home, but why not visit locations such as Indonesia. You may be stuck at home but you can still see the rest of the world!
We're sure that like us you take hundreds of photos on each of your travels, many of which will stay on your camera. Why not use this time to put together your favourite images into 'coffee table books' or create some new art for your walls? Or if you want to something slightly different why not buy a scratch map and see how many places you can scratch off your list!
When we're planning for a holiday we love to put in place plans for where we're going, what we're going to do and everything in between. With so much of the world in different stages of lockdown now is the perfect time to research your next vacation, and create a bullet journal to record where you'll be going when the world reopens!
Have you ever wondered how some people get such amazing light in their photos? Golden hour is the period of time either just after sunrise or just before sunset, and the colours you can get in your photos can make some truly stunning memories for you. With the warmer weather at the moment why not practice your photography skills so that when you can explore the world again you know you'll come home with photos to be proud of!
If your kids are bored why not arrange a camping session in the garden? Camping With Style took part in the Great British Campout & it couldn't have looked more fun! If you have a secure garden, space & adventurous children pitch your tent up, set up the barbie & watch the stars from your back garden while you wait for the little ones to fall asleep. It may not be this year's planned holiday but for your little ones it can be an experience they may not have otherwise had.
If you're not sure what to do with the kids this week why not take a look at Egypt, or more specifically Cairo which is home to some of the oldest landmarks in the world. Research the pyramids, the Sphinx of Giza or the Sakkara, or you could even take a virtual tour of the Nile. You could even have an Egyptian themed dinner, with kebabs or baklava. However with restrictions still in some places, it may be best to leave the toilet rolls alone when dressing up as a mummy!
Bring the world to you!
Travel's not an option at the moment so why not bring the world to you? Tidy up your garden enjoy the lovely weather with an area dedicated to your favourite destination! Garden furniture with potted plants can give you a mediterranean feel while sitting with your feet in the kids paddling pool can make you feel like you're on the beach! Okay, we know it's not perfect but at least you can relax for half an hour and dream of where you'll be heading off to soon.
