Amanda Scope is an Austrian-born graphic designer, with over 15 years experience in magazine and book publishing, She has designed covers and layouts for various lifestyle and fashion magazines, anthologies and trade books. We spoke to Amanda about the difference between working on self-published and traditionally published books, whether or not you need a degree to work in print design and the most gratifying aspect of her job.
Sarah Birks is a freelance art director and prop stylist specialising in food content. With a background in fine art, a Bachelor’s degree in graphic design and an insatiable appetite for all things food, she worked on food titles for ten years before going freelance at the start of 2015.
Freelance designer and illustrator Lisa Horton originally studied to be a fashion illustrator before finding herself in the world of YA and kids’ book design, via a stint in adult fiction and a return to college to study Graphic Design. Among many others, she has designed a series of covers for author Lisa Heathfield, including Paper Butterflies, which was shortlisted for the Waterstones Children’s Book Prize 2017.
