This is an example of mud walling from Whittlesey. This is one of the oldest known housing materials and is surprisingly strong. The mud is kneaded together with straw and is then added to wood which gives the wall much of its strong form. The example held by Whittlesey Museum offers a fascinating cross section of mud walling.
