4th Grade Cave Paintings

4th Graders created these cave paintings using oil pastels and water colors. I purchased cave stamps and some of the students used them in their paintings. We looked at the cave of Lascaux' virtual tour and studied several different sections of the cave. We studied the animals and symbols found within several prehistoric painted caves. The cave above was created by 5th graders.

Before the topic starts, everyone is asked what do they want to learn. So in this case of the Stone Age, everyone gets a flame to add what they want to learn over the topic Class Displays, School Displays, Classroom Displays, Great Fire Of London, The Great Fire, History Classroom, Teaching History, Stone Age Ks2, Prehistoric Age

Stone Age Boy: Cave Painting Art Activity

One of the things I'm enjoying most about being back at work, is taking a class of older children for art, every Tuesday. Inspired by this wonderful non-fiction narrative by Satoshi Kitamura, the children created wonderful interpretations of prehistoric cave paintings; their artwork looks so authentic and the children (especially the boys) loved it!
